This Building situated at Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York City, was built between 1904 and 1906. Designed by the esteemed architect Stanford White of the firm McKim, Mead & White, it was among the first grand commercial structures on Fifth Avenue north of 34th Street. This development marked a pivotal moment in the evolution of luxury retail in the area.
Initially, the building functioned as a showroom for the Gorham Company, a leading American silversmith. In 1923, after the Gorham Company relocated further uptown, the Martic Realty Company acquired the property for Russeks, a high-end women’s clothing store.
To accommodate Russeks, the building underwent significant modifications, including the addition of four new stories and an extension at the rear.
Throughout its history, Fifth Avenue has seen multiple renovations affecting both its exterior and interior. Despite these changes, it remains a distinguished example of early 20th-century American commercial design, symbolizing the opulence and sophistication of Fifth Avenue’s shopping district.
Located in the Penn Plaza/Garment District of Manhattan, 362 Fifth Avenue stands as a notable landmark in the heart of New York City.
